In 2005, a Common Radio Link Pilot ran from June to September. The project has been so successful that the group voted unanimously in October of 2005 to
make the Common Radio Link a permanent SafeZone initiative. In February of 2006, over twenty arrests were made with the Common Radio Link by three Minneapolis Beat Officers alone.
There are over 32 radios on the street, which serve as a communications device between private security and the Minneapolis Police Department. The radios are used to communicate in three different ways-private security to private security, Minneapolis Police to private security, and private security to Minneapolis Police (always dial 911 when needed).
